Quick tutorial for water slide decals. These are a very useful technique for creating effective graphics on customs. I also make custom sheets using one of the best printers around (laser quality) You can also find I sell “pre-made” faction symbols on my ebay account : shop.ebay.com

    @destro319 for sure. Testors makes a protective coating for these, but it’s expensive. I use Krylon’s matte/satin/gloss finish on these. Keeps the ink in place.

    does anyone know if after you make the decals you should add a protective coating to them before you use them. my experience is after you dip them in water prior to application, the ink comes off when you touch it. I saw another tutorial in which someone used an aerosal spray. Thanks.

    @optimusprime0917 you can do both. I prefer to clear coat 2 times, once before and again afterwards. I apply clear coats through an air brush which are nice, even, thin coats.

    i’m painting a rotf dirge and i haven’t put the clear coat on the whole figure let,should i put on the waterslide decal before i put the clear on the whole figure or after.

    Thank you, this was quite useful for me, even if it’s for gundam’s. Now I know what I lacked and that is the clear coat.

    @katch26 hey man, yeah, that’s right. usually on a black or dark colored painted area, you wanna use white. Unless it’s gonna be black or a darkER color graphic than the paint/surface/area it’s going on

    in the beginning you said you wouldnt want to use the clear on a black transformer you’d want to use the white background, is that right?

    Good stuff. I was always iffy on using decals, but that may change now.

    No idea who gave you a thumbs down, but here’s an up to counter it.

    The 370Z is the Fairlady. Same car. Simply goes by different names in Japan and North America.

    f_r, seeing you handle that custom, and even hearing the plastic shift, makes it more enjoyable to see than just from the photos at Radicons. Still, not a fan of the tinted windows, but I contemplate doing something similar to my Megs. Oh, and great tutorial. Never occured to me to ‘glue’ the decal with clearcoat.

    I plan to buy the decal sheets shortly… I would like to get one of your Devy shield casts at the same time. My inquires on that haven’t been answered though. Can you do that at the same time?
