AIRFIX 1/72 Yak 9D – A Building Review (Final project for 2009)

Final project for 2009! It only took a couple of days… Kit Rating: 4 / 10 (Help!) Decal Rating: 5 / 10 (Decals out of register, excess carrierfilm & very delicate to handle) I wasted £6.30 of my hard earned cash, buying this kit in the former local CO-OP! Learn from my mistake!! In spite of what I stated in the previous ‘Inbox Review’, and the reasonably good end result of this build, I still can’t really recommend this kit at all..     @drk4tlf The Focke Wulf 190 D is the better kit of the two.. by miles!! Or at least in my opinion..

    i need your opinion! should i get either a Yak 9D or a Focke Wulf 190D in airfix?

    @gamerdude223 Well, I did write ‘probably’.. Never seen the kit, so I can’t say one way or the other.. :)

    @BasicModelling To be honest even when it came out it was a bit bad.
    they stuck a stuka propeller on it instead of making a new one. :/

    @gamerdude223 Well, I nearly bought it, but my friend who also owns the model shop warned me about it.. I have already built the superb Academy version, and I also have the ZVEZDA kit to do, so no need to get the Airfix kit, anyway! Just bear in mind that when the Airfixkit was made it was probably one of the best ones on the market.. but times have moved on!

    You might think this is a bad kit but wait til you try the airfix 1/72 IL-2 sturmovik.

    @Ezza190 Not as old as the kit I bought the other day, i.e the Airfix 1/72 Grumman Gosling / Vidgeon, which was first released back in 1958… or so I have been told.. :P

    @BasicModelling i did mine in the soviet winter scheme, with snow weathering, it looks great, plus it was good to do something different, its full of brilliant detail for such a small plane, especially if you have etched parts for the engine or the seatbelts :D

    @Ezza190 As a matter of fact.. Yes, I have! I did the Polikarpov I-16 Type 18, in 1/48 scale.. I had a video posted of the build, but on my closed down channel, so sadly it’s no longer available! I detailed the engine and added seat belts and it’s not too bad a model, if I say so myself.. :) :) I have a Hasegawa 1/72 I-16 to build as well, but not sure when.. :)

    @TheDaneTuts I’ve thought about it, yes.. but that’s as far as it goes! You probably can brushpaint a large model like that, if you go carefully.. use thinned paints and a flat brush. :)

    Ever thought of making an 1/24 model?
    Was also wondering, do you think you can paint such a big model with just a brush, or…?

    @Ezza190 That is ok.. :) :) I don’t really do copyright stuff with my videos.. but obviously should anyone use any of it, I like to be credited.. but channel icons are different, you can’t really credit them.. :)

    @Ezza190 Yes.. and luckily for you I won’t claim copyright on your channel icon photo, as well I could.. :) :) Feel free to use as you like.. :) :) I enjoyed this build, it was a bit of a challenge.. but good fun!! :)

    @CrazyKitBuilder Humbrol and Revell sell filler too, by the way.. Not sure how good they are, but as long as you get the finest grade you should be ok.. :)

    @CrazyKitBuilder Thank you.. I use Testors White putty and Vallejo Plastic Putty, depending on what the need is from time to time.. :)
