What is a Spitfire FR.IX? The most heavily armed reconnaissance Spitfires were a small number of FR (Fighter Reconnaissance) Mk IXs. These carried the standard guns of the Mk IX fighter, with one obliquely mounted F.24 camera and were used for low to medium level reconnaissance. Decal Rating: Overall Rating: 9 / 10 (I only used the D-Day Stripes decals from the kit, but they went on very well. All other decals came from various Xtradecal After Market decal sheets.) I also used the cockpit parts and the canopy from the otherwise totally useless Italeri Spitfire Mk.IX kit, plus an old style Airfix pilot. All other parts are kit original.
